RE: Abe Collins: Is CO open for tourists types? Cafes, motels? nt

The Mrs and I were in CO last week, visiting Denver and Steamboat Springs. It's not like the "old days" but it's not bad at all. Most restaurants, cafes, and breweries are open at about 50% capacity so call ahead or just be flexible in your dining spot or hours. Understandably, prices were somewhat higher but not astonishingly so. We were welcomed warmly and had good service wherever we stopped with one exception. The McDonalds were all restricted to take out or drive through service so be realistic in your desires for a Big Mac, their 100 mile coffee, or the convenient use of a rest room.

Most of the hotels were open with their own levels of Covid-19 precautions. Hotels in Steamboat seemed to be pricey but it's their summer season. Denver hotels near the airport were very reasonably priced, less than $100 for one night with two queen beds in a Mariott. The taxes will get you about another 20% added to your room fee.

Gasoline was as low as $2.40/gal in Denver but as high as $2.90/gal at a few places along the way and in Steamboat. The COHP is still operating but they aren't interested in ticketing on the highways unless you're going 10-20 mph over the posted limit or otherwise making poor choices in your driving style. I regularly did 80 mph on the interstates and was frequently passed by SUVs.

The Mt Evans road outside of Denver is closed for the season due to Covid-19 considerations. Rocky Mountain Nat'l Park requires reservations during daytime to limit the number of guests in the park. Check their website and other national park websites for more information.

Other than those bits of info, wearing masks is mandated and most residents and visitors got along well with that. Don't drive under the influence of intoxicants, no open containers, and remember that you won't have cell service, green chile, or wifi everywhere you go. It's still a good time.
