I was wondering the same thing. When it comes to mortgages, a lot of people use mortgage brokers who may be steering them to Wells Fargo, either because of competitive rates, or because Wells Fargo is giving them a kickback.
When it comes to retail banking, it's more of a mystery. I wouldn't open an account with them. However, there's a lot of people out there who don't read the news or have a short memory of it. They might honestly be unaware of the shenanigans. If so, it's their own fault.
