Did they conduct human challenge trials?
Human challenge trials would be pretty damn unethical considering there is no cure or consistently effective treatment for COVID-19, so I kind of doubt they did that, and haven't seen any new sources that said they did.
Without human challenge trials, the best they could say is that the vaccine stimulated antibody production. That's assumed to be an indicator of efficacy, but wouldn't support a claim that they've tested short-term efficacy.
What I did see a week ago was that they completed the first phase of human trials, consisting of ~20 individuals, which verified immune response and has so far not indicated safety concerns. That's good, but there are other teams further ahead in the process.
The more, the merrier I say. But all the boasting is a bit much.
