Here's a tip

Partially inflate the tube before you begin, just enough to get it into a round, tubular shape. Then insert the tube into the tire before you put the tire on the rim. The outward pressure will help keep the tube tucked into the tire and away from the rim.

Next, insert the valve stem into the rim, and then insert one bead into the rim right where the valve stem is. From there, work the rest of that one bead into the rim, moving away from the value stem equal amounts on both sides until you reach the opposite side of the rim from where the valve stem is. You'll need to pry the last bit over the edge of the rim. You should end up with one whole side of the tire in the rim, and with the valve stem still centered in the whole. If the valve stem isn't centered, fix it now by pulling the tire around in the right direction.

Now flip it over to the other side and go back to where the valve stem is. Insert the second bead into the tire at the location of the valve stem. Then push the valve stem into the tire to make sure the tube isn't in the way. As you did with the first bead, work away from the valve stem by equal amounts in both directions. That will keep the valve stem centered and avoid stressing the tube around the stem. As you work your way around the tire, make sure the tube is tucked up into the tire before prying a section of bead over the rim. You want to make sure the tube doesn't get pinched in between the tire and rim as you pry the bead over. You will probably have to deflate the tire a little bit as you go.
