Some failed restaurant owners are poor managers

I don't know who has been running K-Pauls since Paul died, but there's plenty of people who get into the business but don't know how to run a business.

I've always been amazed at how some restaurants can be consistently busy, but still fail. While others can sell half the meals and stick around for years and years. Or how some restaurants can go deep into the red, change ownership, and then suddenly do fine with the same location, price point, and customer volume.

It seems like a lot of the startups that fail are owned by the head chef, who may be an expert at making the meals, but often doesn't have the business and management skills to run a restaurant, and the restaurant isn't big enough to hire a manager or accountant.

According to a family member who has been in the industry for ages, there's also a lot of restaurant owners who have substance abuse and other personal problems that get in the way of running their business.
