tinear posted that last week.

My initial reaction was that it was just Sweden looking for any data that justified their approach. Sweden had a big surge of cases in June, for unexplained reasons, which seemed to suggest that increasing immunity (if it exists) hadn't had an effect yet.

But in the week after I replied to tinear, Sweden's count of new cases dropped like a stone, also for unexplained reasons.

So my conclusion is: who knows? Until some country or region actually demonstrates the effect of herd immunity, we're making guesses.
