RE: Anyone tipping more to help out barkeeps and servers?

I prefer Australia - no tipping. Business owners pay employees a livable wage of $22 an hour. I asked the hotel desk about tipping the cleaning staff and she told me - no need. They are paid properly to do their job properly.

Originally the TIP was viewed as a bribe and came before a service TIPS (To Insure Proper Service). That is why it is frowned upon in several Asian countries. No tipping in China/HK South Korea etc.

People should not have to behave like slaves to earn your "charity."

Having said that when in Rome do as the Roman's do so I tip - usually 20%-100% in restaurants or bars - 25% for hair cuts. $3-$5 per bed per night in a hotel.

The more money I make the more generous I am able to be. Since I worked many of those jobs in my teens and twenties I know what a slog they are and I know I was super jacked when I got a $2 tip cleaning tables at McDonald's. I was like wow someone gave me a tip and it's not a real restaurant - until you realize that in fact it is a real restaurant - people do clear tables and put garbage away etc. It rarely happened but it was pretty cool at the time. When you're making $5 an hour and someone gives you $2 - I mean that was a big deal. I couldn't spend the "Employee of the Month Award" LOL.
