RE: Funny how you make assumptions....

There's definitely selective outrage from different circles depending on who is gathering.

Boston had large protests, but the majority of people were wearing masks or other face coverings. They set up dozens of temporary test sites around the city for a week and asked anybody who attended the protests to come and get tested. 17600 were tested and there were 2.5% positive. The overall 7-day average positive rate was 1.8%. That suggests there may have been some increased transmission due to the protests, but it was much less than I expected.

NYC also set up additional test sites for protesters, but the results were never made public (that I could find), probably because they were co-mingled with all the other tests.

In general, the media just looked for spikes of new cases in cities with large protests and didn't find a pattern. Some cities had large protests and saw rapid case growth in the second half of June. But other cities had large protests and didn't see case growth at all. That led them to conclude that the spikes in places LA, Houston, and Miami were caused by something else.

One problem I've heard anecdotally is that younger people who have either gathered to protest or party are blowing off the contact tracers when they call.
