I know there is a rule against it

It was strongly enforced for a long time, then suddenly it was minimally enforced, if at all. People took that as a sign that political discussions were now permissible. And why wouldn't they? It's obvious there's an appetite for political discussion in this forum. And the owner/webmaster and some of the Bored were participating in it.

Now it seems to be partially enforced, but it's hard to figure out where the line is when some threads that are barely political get deleted, meanwhile there's threads like this one where anything goes.

My suggestion is that if you want the political discussion to stop, be clear about it. Make an announcement, and then enforce it.
