Ithaca is fortunate in that respect, by virtue of location.
But if the pandemic causes long term change, State College is fucked.
They're going to feel like a lot of towns who lost their major employer as part of the manufacturing exodus. Some towns even transitioned from a manufacturing town to a college town, and now what?
I was also thinking about all those students going to college in their parents' basements or bedrooms, and hanging out with the same crowd they did in high school. Will they be socially and emotionally mature enough to enter the workforce as we currently know it? Will there be an increase in depression and suicide?
