RE: More pandemic fall-out that I hadn't thought about...

That's what I thought a month or so ago, but I was wrong. The pent-up demand is tremendous.

My brother runs the food service operations for an all-inclusive resort in the Carribean. He was furloughed, and at first I assumed he was out of work for the rest of the year.

But now the virus is gone from the island, and he's back to work. They are opening on July 1 and are already fully booked for months, up to their albeit reduced capacity. They have screening, mask wearing, and social distancing requirements. And a portion of the hotel is set aside for quarantine if necessary.

He and I have talked about it, and I think the virus will be back to spreading through island communities by the end of July. IMHO, the people who will get on a plane and fly down there for a vacation are exactly the people you don't want around. He has a more optimistic view, based on the fact that their clientele are mostly repeat visitors who come back every year. We'll see.

Here in New England, we normally have a lot of summer tourism. So far, we've been cautious to open, relative to Florida et al. But when things have opened, they are immediately filled to capacity. Young people are acting as if the whole thing is over and it's a normal summer. Families are still being cautious, because they're motivated to make things safe enough for day care and school to resume.
