Is that a CA thing?

I received my first shotgun as a 14th birthday present and started bird hunting, followed by a second one for deer hunting at 16. When I turned 21, I got a New York State pistol permit (which allows for concealed carry) and an 8" barrel .357 Magnum with scope for deer hunting. The permit process was a bit arduous and took 9-10 months, but it cost next to nothing. I've since lived in two other states that required handgun licensing. The most expensive was MA. I forgot what I paid exactly, but currently it costs $100 every 6 years. That's utterly insignificant compared to the costs of ammunition and range fees/club dues needed to keep your skills sharp.
