I've said this before, and I'll still stand behind it--the total area under the curve is not going to be any smaller, the longer we drag this out. Yes, we may have avoided the massive spike of overwhelming the healthcare system all at once, but day by day, this is still adding up.
Look at the curves for China, Korea, Taiwan, Australia, New Zealand, Norway, Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Israel, Greece, Iceland, Hungary, Thailand, Vietnam, the Baltic states, and our own states of Alaska, Hawaii, Montana, and Vermont. All have stopped the community spreading of the virus (at least for now) and are down to managing just a handful of new cases per day.
There is no reason why this virus can't be contained long before it infects a large percentage of the population, just like SARS and MERS were contained before it. And we have many successful examples to follow this time.
