We have a few families in our extended neighborhood that I've seen doing that too. Obviously, the more you limit your contacts, the better. But if these two families only interact with each other, limit their contacts with anybody else, and protect themselves when away from home, then it's not so bad.
The problem is that if it becomes an accepted practice, and everybody starts doing it, then it just creates a web of close connections through which the virus can spread again. It's like that paddle boarder who was arrested in California. One guy out on his own poses no danger to anyone. But if you let everyone do that, you have crowded beaches again.
