For fun and to help forestall the complete transformation of my brain to mush, during the fall semesters, I teach a grad school biotechnology course, " Introduction to Glycobiology ", at a moderately large private university in Boston ( not one of those other private universities across the River Charles in Cambridge!). Last year, the news of the kg standard finally being changed broke right before the semester's last lecture. Since my course is, fundamentally, an analytical course* I added a couple of slides on the topic.
Needless to say, it's way outside my expertise, but I particularly liked hearing about the folks who got inked with Planck's Constant :)
I guess if I were younger and/or weirder, I could get tattoos of some branched oligosaccharide structures found on mammalian glycoproteins... I guess I could...
;)
* I got enough of the left-brain stuff as a scientist, so I aim a little more on the right-brain side when it comes to hifi. :)
all the best,
mrh
