I've never started 'em inside -- just plant bulbs outside in the spring... and they do pretty well.
We do buy little leek plants to plant; they do well, too.I/we've never had the patience (or the facilities) to start seeds inside for more 'normal' vegetables.
We are lucky to have a local mom & pop 'greenhouse' in our little village that starts their own vegetables plants for lazy folks like me. We get most of our 'maters, peppers, 'cukes, and whatnot from them (some flowers, too) -- There's also a larger farmstand/greenhouse/plant place in town, and the BIG local place (which was very good) is now a "Gardeners' Supply" (which is OK,too).
all the best,
mrh
