1989 to '91.I should qualify that. The Bay Area was all facade. Long on substance, short on soul. The people we knew were nice, but kept things very superficial. I think the transient nature of people, and things, there led to a fear of deeper relationships with people. My wife, who was mostly stay-at-home with two very young children at the time, suffered the most from that. I was workin' and travelin' for work, so superficial filled the bill for me at the time.
But then again, we are East Coast people and we were, and are, much happier with the 'culture' on this side of the country.
On the other hand, we had no dearth of folks who were thrilled to come visit; plenty to see and do within a couple of hours of our house in Milpitas... as long as it was outside of rush hour, of course.
;)
all the best,
mrh
