On world corruption ranking they scored 138.What's so good, you might ask?
Well, there are 180 spots, so they still have room to grow - to kick Somalia out of that juicy last spot! :)
The level of corruption in Russia is truly staggering. It is impossible to comprehend for a typical westerner. So much has been written about it, but very traditionally this type of information doesn't seem to bother the common people.
What matters to them is that "things are getting better". And they are... Putin and Co are smart enough to realize that public must be fed morsels from their table now and then. So when there used to be a pension of $50 a month, there is now $70, and people are grateful to their Tsar for that.
I have seen some videos of idiots sitting in their squalor rooms expressing full support of their ruler - perfectly ready to "show the West".
They make reasonable amount of money by selling their resources, but almost all of it ends up in the hands of very few. So while their per capita GDP might look respectable, their common standards of living are atrocious.
On top of that they have totally fucked up mentality. There is a very old, but oh, so very true joke, that a German farmer gets happy when he buys another cow.
A Russian celebrates when his neighbor's cow dies.
