Sadly, I know a thing or 2 or 3 about orthopods. I was in a cycling accident, hit by a car, and ended up with my left leg broken in 5 places.
Don't get frustrated; get to work. The advice to visit 2 or 3 surgeons is a great idea, but do your research first. It may take 2 or 3 hours on line first. Look up the doctors, but if you can, start with those in a city nearby that work or are affiliated with a larger teaching hospital, not a local community hostpital. These folks train others, have heavier caseloads, see more complicated situations, and get the referrals the local guys can't handle or botched. They should be Board Certified. It will be difficult to get a quick appointment; these guys are in demand. It may also be inconvenient to drive there, but so is not being able to walk! (I was on and off crutches for 4 years)
Also, talk with your GP, anyone who's a nurse, any medical person, or other friends who've had knee trouble. They may be able to conirm your choice. When you've got the right person, you know it.
When you visit, make sure you have a list of questions and take someone else with you if that helps. Even take notes.
As you already know, there are a lot of knee surgeons so there must be a few good ones out there that are right for you.
Good luck!
