Yes, indeed. Some like gold chains, others love cars, some listen to Shakira, some to Beethoven.
Furthermore, the presence of "gun culture" does not many any difference. In the totally gun-free USSR boys played with toy guns and dreamed of shooting real ones. As soon as it was allowed, the gun culture started to develop there as well.
It is the basic human need, not some sociology professor's induced "responsible want".
