Should not be any crud

Number one - the oil in the pan is not sitting motionless, that environment is more like the sea during storm. So there is no room for sediment to settle down.

Number two - oil pump sucks the oil from the bottom of the pan, and first thing - sends it through the filter.

Replacing oil filter often is the key to keeping the impurities out.

I tend to change my synthetic oil every 5,000 miles or so. This is basically 1/3 of what the car manufacturer recommends. The filter gets changed too, that goes without saying.
