A Darwin's Law Byway

There are roads in the US that must have been built out of desperation by isolated communities or a manic desire to weed out the feeble minded drivers in this world. One these paths is the road from Willets, CA, CA 1 to the coast, through Fort Bragg, and then connecting with CA 128 down to Cloverdale, CA.

Mrs PG and I successfully navigated this test of car brakes and arm strength endurance last week in a rental 2018 AWD RAV-4. There are better cars to take this kind of trip. Much of this road leaves no room for error with rock walls on one side and steep drop offs on the other. Lots of hairpin turns and curves where you damn well better follow the 15 or 20 MPH speed limit sign rather than the 55 MPH that a Garmin will tell you. I just might be fool enough to enjoy this sort of thing but Mrs PG swears we've never been down such scary road. If you tire of the road, stop for an overnight in Ft Bragg for some brews and maybe some slightly expensive eats at North Coast Brewing, home of Scrimshaw Pilsner and Old Rasputin.

It's a suggestion.
