Downtown Burlington, VT has a thriving restaurant scene and the Gardener's Supply store is just a few miles away. Stowe, VT isn't all that much more than restaurants, bars, and motels but the Alchemist Brewery just off Mountain Road is good for a few samples. The von Trapp family is still there and has a nice beer hall/brewery operation that serves some tasty Austrian foods. They also operate an above average resort hotel elsewhere on their mountainside acreage.
Finally, I'd suggest the King Arthur Flour store in Norwich, VT. If you or the Mrs do any kind of baking, you'll be surprised at the number of things that you didn't know you needed to be found there. Mrs PG and I stop there every time we go to New England to visit my sainted mother, the OPG, and family. Dartmouth College is located in Hanover, NH, just across the river from Norwich.
