I just bought a small battery for my riding mower that was shot after only 2 years. I paid $60 for the replacement. They had basically a good better and best priced from $50-$70. The warranties were progressively longer the more you paid.
I have found that car batteries are similar. Maybe you bought the bottom of the line 5 years ago and a more upscale model this time around? Anyway, 5 years life out of a car battery is very good in my opinion. I usually only get 3 years or so.
