I have had many pets and two kids.

I know people without kids may think that their pets are in the same ball park, but it's not really close. I have both. We are empty nesters treating our pets like kids, but they aren't kids. They are just a substitute. I love my two dogs, but they aren't my kids.

And the other consideration is have you ever had to "put down" one of your children. That to me would be unthinkable. Maybe we just had good kids.
