RE: On a lighter note...

The color is known as celadon. The glaze uses copper as the colorant. At the end of the fireing, the kiln is reduced by adding fuel (usually wood) that quickly burns up all of the oxygen in the kiln. The kiln is then closed tightly to keep out oxygen. The result is the green color. Oxygenated copper is red. Reduced copper is green, thus the color you see. It was very popular in China due to the difficulty of producing in in ancient kilns. It is easier in a modern electric kiln with a feed hole for the reducing fuel, and of course a modern kiln is tighter built to keep out the oxygen.

I have a hand made celadon vase. Mine is probably worth about $10. I made it myself while in college in the 60s. I took a ceramics class and loved "throwing" pots on the potters wheel. Most of my fellow student weren't very good on the wheel. I would go to the studio on weekends and practice for hours. I gave away many of my rejects to other students. I was probably responsible for several letter grade increases for some cute coeds.
