Venus was the consensce. We had 4 neighbors out looking at it. I've never seen Venus look that bright or large even at high altitude and no light pollution. It also seemed to have rays emanating from it from time to time that would come and go. That may have been atmospheric. That was why we originally thought it was something odd.
From where we are, it was at least 2-3 times larger than I have ever seen Venus.
