As long as the storm keeps doing what it has been doing (staying offshore), Jacksonvile should be fine. Most places have experienced only tropical storm winds, not hurricane force, but these storms can wobble.
The difference in 35 mph and 100+ mph wind is huge. The rain thing is another concern obviously. Actually, it has been pretty miraculous that it has stayed just offshore following the coast. Hopefully, it will continue to stay over water.
We have relatives on the other side in Panama City, but no problem over there.
I've lived my entire life on the Mississippi/Louisiana coast, so I have seen my share of hurricanes. I have evacuated for some and stayed for some. So far, this one hasn't been that bad relatively speaking. Keep your fingers crossed. Things can always change.
