I also enjoyed model building as a teen. Mostly WWII aircraft a few cars.
The Boeing modeling club president and I became friends at work he asked if I could make some scale gun tubes for the club. I turned some out of aluminum for the club and they gave me several very nice kits to build. I started two and never was able to finish them. One was a StuG another an M4 Sherman.
I saw some of the work they did amazing. The craftsmanship was beyond anything I ever saw.
