Cornhuskers football is essentially the state religion in Nebraska. I didn't realize how serious it is until I married my wife who is originally from Omaha. It's a good thing the team doesn't play football on Sunday.
The fans, as they say in the Midwest, travel extremely well whether it's to a conference game or to bowl games. If you counted the number of Nebraska fans wearing red in the stands and then figured that they will probably spend much more than $200 a day, you'll know why bowl committees are always ready to see the "Big Red" coming to town.
While Nebraska hasn't been as successful in the Big 10 as it was in the Big 12, getting national TV exposure for the team doesn't hurt when they're trying to recruit top high school prospects.
