1. There is no mercury (aka Merthiolate) in vaccines any more.
2. Reports like the one mentioned are not proof of causality. People tried to blame mercury because the symptoms of autism resemble those of mercury poisoning. BUT the pathological findings are different between the two conditions.
3. The British scientist who posited this relationship is now discredited, it turns out he was trying to promote his own vaccine by discrediting the current one.
