...your post-op recovery is primarily dependant on how bad tear/tears.... is/are..the rotator cuff is comprised of 4 muscles that are the stabilizers of the glenohumeral joint..shoulder joint...if you have a simple tear of 1 tendon ...the recovery is usually not prolonged or difficult.the problem arises when you have more then 1 tendon, torn...( the tendons are the issue not the muscles...the tendons attach to the proximal humerus and are abductors..bring you arm out sideways from your body and abductors ..externally rotate the arm ....if they are 'simply' torn the repair is fairly straight forward..if the tenon / tendons are shredded then that makes repairing them very difficult at times and at times not possible at all.post op physical therapy should be approached very positively ...as this along with the repair will determine you eventual outcome..each case is different and all the well intentioned stories should be taken with a grain of salt.most people do well ...good luck..the procedure should be done by an orthopod that has a great deal of experience with an arthroscope...90% of the time the surgery is done closed through the scope..again..good luck
