back in the '70s, we used to drive to Spokane which is a 3-hour drive that is a similar distance from Calgary to Edmonton. To do some shopping and whatnot as they take the Canadian dollar on par which is a boon for the shoppers from B.C.
On the way back we also used to stop by at Northport, Wa to enjoy the scenery along the Columbia River hike. I supposed those were the good ole days when the
the wall wasn't built yet on the border.
