It was a demonstration. All this talk of an "insurrection" is nothing more than unhinged overstatement.
Yes, there were a few nut cases among the crowd - arrest them, charge them appropriately, convict them, have them serve their sentences, and move on. But three and a half years for "unlawfully obstructing an official proceeding" is crazy. The only thing this kind of sentence does is to make certain members of a particular political "team" feel all warm and fuzzy inside because their political enemies got "what was coming to them".
