That article isn't fact, it's opinion and it's opinion coming from two guys who work for an organization with a vested interest in increased military spending.
War-mongering is what the MIC does. It's history, not my opinion, and war-mongering is the very reason for AEI's existence.
You need to look at our history and be skeptical. Very skeptical. I can tell you, the only way I would ever have believed the Saddam Hussein had WMD was if Hussein himself flew me to Baghdad on his personal jet and took me on a tour of the weapons facilities. The only way I'll believe that China is frantically building a navy to match ours is if Xi flies me there personally and shows them to me. Right now China is struggling to generate enough energy to keep the factories open, I can't picture a WWII-type building program going on at the same time as the country is producing the world's consumer goods. The US didn't have that capability at the height of its powers.
I've heard these kinds of arguments for increased military spending and military intervention all of my life, from the time I was aware enough to understand it, and in EVERY INSTANCE, the hawks were dead...fucking...wrong.
Everything they touched blew up and yet, journals of opinion still give them the time of day.
You also have to think logically. What difference does it make to the average American if China controls Taiwan? Absolutely none. If China dominates Vietnam? None.
Why, therefore, should our blood be shed and our treasury depleted?
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
