Second of all, the US has a long history of overthrowing democratically-elected governments all over the world and replacing them with brutal, bloodthirsty dictatorships. This makes us better than the Chinese? I look at the horrors my country has visited upon millions of innocent people in my lifetime, people who did nothing to us whatsoever, and I'm sickened.
Third, there's a perception that people in China live in some kind of 1984 -like hell hole where every thought is closely monitored and anybody not wearing a smile on their faces gets trotted off to the re-education camps.
But here in the US, we're under electronic surveillance 24/7. The FBI has the legal authority to snoop your house and open your mail without even obtaining a warrant. Cops can shoot you dead for no good reason and your survivors have no recourse. Our economic order is backed up by state violence. I seriously doubt that we're any freer than people in China. The reality is, they're freer in some ways, we're freer in other ways, but in the end there's little to no difference for the average man-in-the-street.
So again, we should go to war with China over Taiwan?
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
