Oh, yeah? 2012 Impala, eh?

Got you beat. I drive a 2006 Chevy Cobalt. There's an old saying that a Chevy will run bad longer than most cars will run. I've always liked them, have tons of experience driving them and working on them, even some of the most miserable pieces of shit to wear the Bowtie, like the base model Corsica and the Chevette. The Chevette was the worst by far.
Like you I drive only about 5000-6000 miles per year. The farthest I'd go in any direction is 250 miles at most. My wife drives even less. Her Hyundai is two years old, has 6700 miles on it.
An EV would be ideal for people like us because range isn't a factor. No worries about passing an emissions test every year, no oil to change, no evaporative system to fail, no exhaust system to rust out, no catalytic converter to get stolen...
I'm looking at it strictly from that standpoint because nothing meaningful will ever be done about global warming, regardless of who does or doesn't believe in it. An EV is a hell of a lot simpler than a gasoline engined car with turbocharging, direct injection, cylinder deactivation, variable valve timing (and sometimes variable valve lift), variable compression...all the stupid tricks the car makers use so that they can continue to sell oversized pickup trucks.
If you're never going far from home, then you're never far from a charger either.
And BTW, there is no Federal mandate, only a goal. IIRC, only California has a mandate.
Oh, and...which engine in your Chevy? Is the 3.6? Any timing chain noise?

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
