Really dropped after 2008. After the fiascos in Iraq and Afghanistan, the armed services are having problems recruiting. Heh.
BTW, the term "redneck" gets used as a pejorative but shouldn't. The term comes from one of those US civil wars that don't get taught in history classes (or ever spoken of because they don't fit in with our birdbrained mythology), between miners in Appalachia and mining company goons (which included Federal troops). At one point the miners had 20,000 men under arms and they wore red bandannas around their necks in order to recognize each other in combat.
Hence, "redneck."
