Inmate Central, where civil and family-friendly discourse about off-audio topics (other than religion and politics) is welcome.

OBD 2 isn't the issue.

It's the CANBUS, not OBD2. Functions that used to be controlled by levers, cables, and simple switches are instead run from a data stream operating on the car's data networks (most cars have at least two--high speed and low speed).
All of those controllers have to communicate with each other or the car won't work. People are already scrapping vehicles that are rust free and mechanically sound because failed controllers aren't available and the either won't pass a safety inspection or won't run at all.
Something as simple as a failed radio control module can cripple a vehicle.
What happens in 20 years when a brake actuator fails and there are no replacements?

The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
