Remember the part in The Godfather , Michael Corleone is hiding in Sicily and he spots Appolonia? Falls instantly in love?
Yeah, well, yesterday my wife and I ran out for some groceries and pulled into traffic behind this:
'65 Impala Super Sport. Same color (Regal Red, black interior), the car I saw had wider tires and different wheels. It was a manual transmission car, too, I could hear the driver slip the clutch when the light changed. It wasn't this exact car, these images are from the interwebs, but this is what "my" Impala looked like, other than wheels and tires.
Red and black. It's my color scheme.
Don't know what engine it had, didn't see the callout on the front fender, but it was definitely a V8.
What struck me first of all was how goddam beautiful the car was. It had been a looong time since I'd seen one in the wild. The next thing that got me was how small it looked compared to the typical bro-dozer or dumbass SUV.
So I got home and did the right thing, ordered the excellent Revell scale model kit. My summer fun project.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
