I don't think it's any kind of conspiracy, it's just stupidity driven by greed.
GM made an EV people wanted--the Chevy Bolt--and killed the car just as sales started taking off. The Bolt is supposed to come back sometime in the next couple years, but who knows?
IMO, and this is strictly conjecture, but probably what happened is that three years ago, when junk like the Silverado EV was just starting into the planning stages, Tesla was riding high, the six-figure price tag wasn't scaring off buyers, investors were in love, and GM/Ford/Stellantis figured consumers were willing to pay a premium for electric cars. Since those companies do trucks, not sedans, mammoth EV trucks it is. It was a major miscalculation.
What buyers want are EVs that cost the same as gasoline powered cars and work just the same as gasoline powered cars, other than the need to stop at gas stations. Truck buyers don't want EVs and EV buyers don't want trucks.
Kia is bring its EV3 to the US next year. $30K MSRP, after the $7500 point-of-sale tax credit it'll be in the same price range as the Elantra. Unfortunately, from my point of view, it's a dumbass SUV.
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
