In the 70s, my work schedule interfered with any attempt to see live shows, later I had kids, was flat broke, etc.
It's also my opinion that most rock n roll bands can't sing or play and need all the studio help they can get. I don't have many live albums, can think of only one double live album (it's an Ian Hunter album that I never play but it was autographed by Hunter).
I've seen Bob Seger (Night Moves Tour), Heart (Bebe Le Strange Tour), Blue Oyster Cult, (Specters Tour), Electric Light Orchestra (Out of the Blue Tour) and ended up liking all of those bands less after seeing them live.
Jimmy Buffett was fun, Mary Chapin-Carpenter was OK. The New York Dolls, I didn't see them until David Johansen and Syl Sylvain were the only surviving members. I still love the original Dolls as much as ever, but the 21st Century version is just David Johansen's backup band.
The best show I ever saw cost $2 to get in (it was Marty Stuart at a local rib bar-b-Q event).
The blissful counterstroke-a considerable new message.
