The Willamette Valley in Oregon is a nice slice of paradise but for one thing. Here in the Corvallis/Albany area it's the grass seed capital of the world. When they harvest that stuff most people (including me) suffer serious allergies for a couple months.Otherwise life in the valley is good. Small towns, friendly people, tree-lined streets. Rent here in Corvallis is about 1/2 to 1/3 of what people pay in the SF Bay Area, where I used to live. Even better for me would be to migrate over the nearby coastal range of hills to the coastal town of Newport. It's only about 40 minutes from Corvallis, and it's free of allergies and grass pollen.
Sad that the internet pretty much killed most short wave radio broadcasting. I have a cheapie Tecsun PL-880 shortwave radio, but haven't done much with it. I do collect top of the line FM tuners; the Onkyo T9090 II being the best of the bunch. Boxed away somewhere I've got an FM tube tuner from the late 1940s.
