RE: Do any of you all actually watch the Indy 500?

Pretty often i do, in fact it's sort of a thing to do that and have a beer, perhaps 2.
Growing up, my Dad used to listen to it on the radio, if the weather cooperated, he was outside his work shop, with a beer. One year in the mid 60's we went to a movie theater and saw a live video broadcast....in a race that had a huge crash right off the bat and then a loooong delay.

A few year before he passed away, i asked about the beer and Indy thing (he rarely drank) and he explained that in the war, he and his buddies used to talk about cars and racing and they all said they would have a beer and listen to the race when they got home and think about each other.
The ones that did come home like my Dad, did that until the end in memory of his friends.

So all those years I had no idea it was anything like that and i figured then, it wouldn't hurt to have a beer and do that too. Have a 6 pack of Yingling in the fridge waiting.
