chrome is all they had back when the car pictured as an example was made, shiny plastic is the deal now, cheaper to make, less weight saves gas.you got excellent practical advice, as time has shown. I almost got to visit Scotland , during the oil crisis back in my sailor days. My ship got as close as the sea buoy at a harbor, then they turned us back to the mideast to resume our oil trade. To say I was beyond bummed doesn't say enough. Still a place I would like to visit, if was still an international type, and hadn't chosen to be constrained by my carbon footprint in traveling.
As you probably know, chrome has gotten so expensive, it spawned the blacked out look now used on many old drivers. Show cars are another deal altogether, and with that kind of money, automated processes could be developed, no problem when more money is needed in that world.
I don't know what the original poster is getting so worked up about, how much chrome is he planning on needing in the future on a daily basis . Will any lack of chrome really make a substantial difference in his life , save for some possible health cost benefits to society in general.
There's still no real substitute for some types of whale oil, but nonetheless, everybody still manages.
