I play a movie and I move in from my normal position in something like 1 foot steps. This way I figure out where the ideal point is for me.
In my case it happens to be close to 1.5. Since we watch from about 11 feet, that makes the ideal (to me) size 88", so 75" is a bit too small, and 83" would be perfect.
I think everyone considering a new TV simply MUST run similar test on the material he normally watches.
