RE: Which TV brand to buy on the Labour Day sale?

People make what is kind of a mixed metaphor comparison.

But the glitch? With stereo and HT, it is vastly subjective. Nobody knows what most of the effects in a movie are supposed to sound like, so anything goes.
One way to get better is with something like DIRAC, which is still in its infancy. But those who have it right make wonderful claims for it.

TV / Camera / Imaging is ahead in the objective measurement end of things. I had a 'spyder' many years ago which when you used it properly, provided a Mega-Improvement to color accuracy, contrast and black level. This depending on monitor. I was so dialed in that when I corrected a picture in Photoshop, and ADDED the printer profile (from Dry Creek) and my OUTPUT would be spot on with my screen. This even though your screen is RGB and printer is CMYK......2 different ways to arrive at 'color'. I went thru drivers for my printer and settled on Guttenprint. This produced wonderful output IN MY HOUSE which also matched my monitor.

And yes, I'm quite happy with my OLED. And I do NOT take any offense at your thoughts / opinions and such about LG. Every brand has fans and Non-Fans. For decades I shot CANON cameras while these days my Nikon Mirrorless is and End Game machine.

I suspect that somewhere IN the 'SERVICE MENU' it may just be possible to shut off some of the enhancements which you find objectionable. When I did a setup on a set where I worked, we went to great trouble to shut all that shit off, too. And ended up with a darn good image. But the boss made us put it back where we found it. Offensive.

I'll bet 25 Pesos that the dealer display you liked was a Pioneer KURO. At about the time you reference this was THE plasma display to own. They were only eclipsed by the last generation or so of the Panasonic Plasma, which as it turned out, were developed with the help of some of the Engineering Talent Pioneer let go when they stopped making the KURO line.....Go Figure!

Don't forget that LG makes 3 'levels' and the menus MAY differ across the lines. People who go 'entry' level may be the least discriminating or just want a 'good picture'....(???) while going upline may get you more flexibility. For example? I'd like REAL RGB controls. Not 'Color' and 'Tint'.

Link is to a sample video. Searching for other videos will even get you into Gamma and other UnCommon adjustments. BE CAREFUL
Too much is never enough
