Inmate Central, where civil and family-friendly discourse about off-audio topics (other than religion and politics) is welcome.

What about the other side

Of course, this makes sense - it's like a guy who goes to a prostitute and gets robbed - if he goes to the police he has to admit he was with a prostitute - so guys aren't going to admit to a crime for the police to capture the prostitute.

But then I'd rather live in a country where I am not living in a self-made prison.

Consider that where I live - no one walks the streets in fear (NEVER) 24/7 any street anywhere - a single girl 18 a top model can walk around unarmed anywhere alone - never even crosses her mind that she might possibly be followed raped or murdered.

That is called Freedom. That is REAL Freedom.

In theory, if you can live in a country where there is no chance of being harmed or robbed you can leave your door unlocked and will know you will never be attacked in any way shape or form - then you never need weapons. That is supposed to be the goal of civilization!

Now if someone in another country (The USA) looks outside and sees that it is dark outside and says - well maybe I'll stay in - or perhaps I'll have to call some friends to go for a jog, or perhaps I'll need to bring my AR15 or perhaps I need Mace and put my keys in my fist - or maybe I need to make sure I get black belt status to go to the corner store to pick up some milk, or perhaps I should have a loaded gun in my end table while I sleep at night, or perhaps I need that super-duper quadruple door lock with a full metal door - or perhaps I need to live in a gated community with a bunch of security guards - then perhaps that isn't "freedom."

Target shooting, Archery, and like sports (paintball etc) are things available in most countries - these sports are separate from the discussion - gun ranges can store all of these weapons and so you can shoot whatever you like. So this kind of argument is somewhat of a red herring.

When I vacationed in Thailand I went to a target shooting place. Unfortunately, the day I planned to go it was closed because a fellow came in to rent the gun loaded it up and then blew his brains out.

So it was closed while they had to clean up the brains on aisle three.

Have you considered that the counter to this view you have is that otherwise tense situations can become much more violent when everyone has a gun?

You state that there are "anywhere between 500,000 and 3 million times each year armed citizens either stop or prevent violence and crime."

But this also misses the opposite where more crime is committed because a pint-sized little dipshit coward with a gun feels like a big tough guy - if he didn't have a gun - say only a knife or a bat - the MMA fighter isn't likely to back down the way he would with that dipshit with an AR15. The guns make the robberies and car jacking far easier to do. Not even mentioning mass shootings of children - no guns then this doesn't happen. At some point, the bat wielder is going to get physically tired of wielding a said bat.

Road rage where someone is pissed off. Without guns, road rage becomes a screaming match and maybe a punch or two. With guns - bodies pile up.

A bar fight in a non-gun-wielding country now becomes a shoot-out with bodies piled up.

Take Texas - if I have a gun and I see a high school bully in the bar - who is also carrying - what is to stop me from waiting outside by his car - he walks over and I just blast him in the head - after all, he is "carrying" and I can just tell the cop I felt threatened - after all he has a gun! No witnesses - my word vs a dead guy. "Officer, he was my high school bully - I have witnesses that he bullied me - he said he was going to shoot me - I saw him reach for his gun so I had to save myself and shoot first."

So while yes your premise is correct about owning a gun will fend off knife wielders - perhaps I think it is better to not have either as the analogy in the photo refers.

Perhaps I make this case because I have had a bit of a temper and I know that if I had a gun - I'd probably have shot someone by now. LOL.
