Zelenskiy is interested in the US critical minerals deal up to a point because it means that the US would have to maintain some kind of security responsibility over their "joint assets". But the deal Trump has proposed is tilted entirely to benefit USA.
Also interesting is that maybe 50% of these mineral deposits are in the eastern side of Ukraine, lost to Putin in the Russian occupied oblasts.
Putin won't be doing any deals with Trump for them, so there may even be some leverage for Zelenskiy to get continued help from the US to get Russia out of there, only so that Trump can get his unfettered minerals access ;-)
