I might agree, with some caveats...

Perhaps the production and distribution of the most basic or most vital of goods (including certain social services) should be overseen and administered by a centralized government ?

Other types of goods and services, that might be considered the "second tier" in goods and services, might be better off left in the hands of the states, or "the people" ? In accordance with Jeffersonian principles, at least to an extent.

In other words, a sort of friendly combination of "restrained socialism" and "free market capitalism with a conscience" ? If such a thing is actually possible, that is.
